Quarter 4 project
due Monday, April 30 Option A - Planet Fitness! **** You may use Padlet, Prezi, Google slides (or other format I approve ahead of time) to create your presentation. Step 1: Track your daily steps/ walking distance using FitBit, iPhone Health, or another app for 10 days. Go old-school if you'd like....just have Mom or Dad sign off on your daily miles (I'll provide a spreadsheet). Your goal is 6000+ steps per day (about 2.5 - 3 miles). Keep a record of your progress through your app or a spreadsheet. Extra points given for longer distances traveled. Step 2: Research 4 specific ways regular aerobic exercise (i.e. walking, running) benefits the health of body systems we cover in 7th grade. Step 3: You are a health and fitness specialist who wants to communicate the importance of regular exercise to students. Create a presentation to do this...it should be visually appealing (with images, graphics) and include- ***Personal experiences in maintaining a regular exercise routine, how this has impacted your life. ***Explanations of at least 4 ways aerobic exercise benefits functioning of specific body systems/organs. ***An "FAQ" section. Be prepared to respond to questions from your teacher and other students. (we'll talk about this..) OR.... Option B - Think Globally, Act Locally Step 1: Select a cause you believe in personally- something about which you feel you might be able to raise awareness and make a small difference. (a few ideas: NC habitat preservation, autism, air pollution, breast cancer). Because this needs to have strong ties to science, please ask me to approve your cause by April 12. Step 2: Design and create a colorful wooden sign to promote awareness of your cause. (Take a look at the ones in the mulch near ECMS main office or our Jr. Beta tree ornaments. Inexpensive sign boards can be found at places like Michaels , Target, etc.) Step 3: On the reverse side of your board (or maybe on extra parts that you tack on- be creative) include 3 scientific points supporting your cause. For example, if you're promoting transition to renewable energy, maybe these points could include *reduced air pollution/carbon footprint, *infinite supply- independence from foreign sources, *supports US job market |
